Perfume is a compilation of essential oil and aromatic compounds, and solvents to give the human pleasing scent.
Perfumes have existed for many years and references to them have been discovered in archaeological digs, however, it was the late 19th century before commercialisation of perfume began.
Perfume oils are mostly diluted with solvent the most common of which is ethanol or a mixture of ethanol and water. Perfume oil may also be mixed with neutral oils such as coconut oil, or liquid waxes.
The strength of a perfume is related to the concentration and intensity of the aromatic mixes. i.e. oils and perfume oils. As the percentage of aromatic compounds increases, so does the strength of the perfume scent created. Different perfume houses assign different amounts of oils to each of their products, therefore, although the oil concentration of a perfume in Eau de Parfum will be higher than the same product in Eau de Toilette from within the same range, the actual amounts can vary between perfume houses. In other words an Eau De Parfum from one company may be stronger than an Eau De Toilette from another fragrance house.
